Thankful for Thursday 17th August 2017 -Summer Camp Day 18
'Thankful for Thursday' 🤗 😍
Our summer camps are nearly at an end and as I write my penultimate daily blog, I'm planning what we're going to be doing tomorrow and starting to feel a tinge of sadness ( I'm sure there will be a few tears tomorrow too) and also pride that we've accomplished so much in just a month and hopefully created some very happy memories for some wonderful young people in Leek and Glossop along the way!?!
Today's theme was the 'magic of the forest'
The weather forecast was spot on today, a drizzly morning ( the midgies came out 😫Trudy managed to rush home for the Avon spray) but the sun popped his head out of the clouds at 11ish and soon we were stripping off the Waterproofs and complaining we were too hot!! 😜
After the usual formalities and welcome, we took our new members and two new staff Rachel and CLare on a journey to the 'wild woods' and 'bog of doom'. It was slip city today, NO ONE can out clean 😱 😫but there was much fun in the process.
Back at camp, we enjoyed snack time and free time- making chipping trails And chillaxing in the hammocks. A reasonably small group today of 16 meant there was almost enough to go round 😝
Our morning activity created more mess, as each child was given a lump of clay and had to create a face for their tree - the idea giving each tree a personality. There was a definite musical theme going on..we had a 'MJ' 'ADele and 'Jimmy Hendrix' tree 😂a few witches and Trudy made a real nasty character 'Cyril' the fire circle guardian!!
Before lunch the kids used any natural resources that they could find at hand to create their names on the field. These turned out brilliantly. 5 of our tribe were pulled out at a time to make our campfire snack - ' Choc oranges' ( the Betty Crocker cheat mix! Shhhhhhhhh!! 🙊)
After lunch we had 'Gamesley Early Excellence centre holiday club' join us with 4 new members for the afternoon and their leader Daniel.
We recapped our FS rules and then I told them all about the little people here at our Forest School site and the funny and mysterious goings on that we have witnessed over the last few weeks. I mentioned that I thought I had seen something from the corner of my eye during the morning and we all went off to investigate. To our surprise we came across a teeny tiny playground. The kids were well under the spell now and so we then spent time creating homes, swimming pools, zip wires, hotels etc for the little people to enjoy. After having the guided tour of each structure it was time for our campfire snack 😋 😋 😋 😋 🍫
After which, we had just about enough time left to make a staff (Josh's favourite past time this week and he was keen to show the others how to go about making one) Or a wand. The kids dived into the task and yet again I have been amazed at the focus and quality of art work that has come from our young people. Wands and staffs at the ready we sat down for toasting of the marshmallows and eating of the s'mores.... I literally am starting to look like a Marshmallow after 4 weeks of this past time 😜 😂 😋
Can I just say I am so touched and totally overwhelmed by the lovely comments, feedback and messages that parents have sent me to say how much they are loving our summer camps. Thanks so much, it is so very much appreciated xx
